ABOUT BOOKHOME
(We have been selling books for 11 years)

FAMILY BUSINESS

Bookhome Australian Internet Bookshop is a family business run by Shirley and Michael. We purchased the storefront bookshop (Stanmore Village Booksellers) in 1998. In 2005, we moved to a new location in Sydney's inner west, and we now sell by mail order and internet only under our new name Bookhome.

We sell mainly secondhand and remaindered books, but with an increasing proportion of collectable and antiquarian books. We continually strive to improve the quality of our books. We have made a special effort to minimise or exclude from our stock books that are significantly stained, foxed (brown-spotted), soiled, or have missing, torn, loose or annotated pages. We aim to reply promptly to orders. All books are well-wrapped and posted in padded bags. We always provide a receipt for orders of value over $30 Australian, and for cheaper books upon request.

We are a small business, and therefore we have currently elected (subsequent to the closure of our storefront shop) not to voluntarily register for GST (Goods & Services Tax). Thus the price of our books does not include GST (a GST-free supply). However, according to the Tax Office, GST can be assumed by the purchaser of secondhand goods. The cost of our books, of course, can still often be claimed as a tax deduction.

SPECIALIST AREAS

Our bookshop contains a broad range of interesting well-kept books.

Our specialist areas are: psychology, health and self-help; Australiana (anything related to Australia, particularly Australian society and history); natural history, animals and pets; science; books for children and young adults; and religion.

Non-specialist strengths in our shop are: biography; history; ethnicity & cross-cultural; Penguin fiction; and Irish-related books.

We also sell a few new books (at 0 - 10% discount) in support of small Australian publishers, as well as a range of pamphlets and other ephemera.

ONLINE BOOK DATABASES

Our books are listed in our online database, and in about 85 book lists. The books are mostly non-fiction, and include both specialist and non-specialist areas.

Apart from our website (www.bookhome.com.au), our books are listed, together with many other booksellers, on the following online book databases:

AUSTRALIAN-OWNED: Books & Collectibles (www.booksandcollectibles.com.au); BibliOz (www.biblioz.com).

FOREIGN-OWNED: Abebooks (www.abebooks.com); Alibris (www.alibris.com); Biblio (www.biblio.com); Antiqbook (www.antiqbook.com).

"My older sisters, when I was very young,
took me to the library,
and thus transformed my life"
( Harold Bloom, American critic)
